Whether you’re a painter, electrician, groundworker or engineer, it’s likely that you’ll need an access tower to assist you in your work at some point.

Choosing the correct access tower for your needs is therefore extremely important. In this piece, we’re going to guide you in choosing the right product for you.

An overview of access towers

Access towers, sometimes referred to as scaffolding towers, are structures with one or more platforms that allow users to work at differing heights. However, there’s by no means a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach when it comes to choosing a tower. For example, if you’re painting the inside of a building on your own, then it’s unlikely that your needs will be the same as that of a construction worker building a large structure.

At Pop Up Products, we’ve taken into account a whole host of different applications for access towers and structured our product ranges accordingly. Our towers range from single person, easy to assemble, rolling access towers such as the MI TOWER to more static, larger towers such as the Eiger range. As such, there are a lot of different towers to choose from so we’ve listed some of the key considerations for choosing an access tower along with some advice and products below.

How many people are using the access tower?

First of all, you’ll need to consider exactly who will be using the tower. Is it just for yourself, or will you need someone on the platform with you?

If the tower is only needed to house yourself, then we’d recommend considering the MI TOWER. It’s a one man rolling access tower, and can be assembled quickly and easily by just one person – something that can be an issue with regular access towers.

However, if you need space for an extra person on your access tower, then the MI TOWER+ would be more appropriate. It’s a larger version of the original MI TOWER and contains a 1.5m long platform to create enough space for two people to work from it. It’s also just as easy as the MI TOWER to assemble and can still be assembled by one person.

Will you need to move your tower?

If you’re working on more than one specific area, then you’ll need to be able to move your access tower around. More importantly, if you’re working alone or maybe with one other person, then you’re going to need a tower that’s easy and quick to move around. This would obviously be an issue with a traditional structure as they tend to be static.

If you do need your access tower to be more versatile in terms of location, then the MI TOWER or the MI TOWER+ (depending on users) would be the logical choice.

However, if your area of work is likely to stay static then we’d recommend the Eiger 250 or Eiger 500 access towers. These towers are strong and durable and available in single or double widths.

What height do you need to work at?

The main reason for purchasing or hiring a access tower is to be able to work at height safely. However, different tasks and projects will require towers of different heights. As this is one of the biggest differentiators between our products, we’ve put together a quick guide below:

4 to 6 Metres

MI TOWER (Rolling one-man tower)

4 to 8 Metres

MI TOWER+ (Rolling tower for up to two people)

Up to 14 Metres

Eiger 250

Eiger 500

Our MI TOWER range are more suitable for one or two person jobs and would work well in a smaller indoor environment or outdoors if working on smaller constructs. Our Eiger range has been designed to handle more expansive jobs that don’t necessarily require much movement for the tower. They’re considerably larger than the MI TOWER range making them more suitable for larger scale applications.

We hope that this guide has proven useful for you, but if you’re still unsure as to which access tower would suit you the best then please get in touch with our product team who will be happy to help.
