EN131 revised standards

The revised Ladder Standard EN131 is now published, covering all series of portable ladders and designed to enhance product standards and help improve the safety of ladders for professional and non-professional use.

The key requirements of EN131 are:

Durability – Ladders of more than three metres are no longer able to disconnect, so you can ensure your ladder sections are attached while you work at great height

Increased strength testing – All ladders now have the same minimum capacity weight restriction of 150kg to improve safety

Increased stability – Ladders higher than three metres must have a supportive wider base bar for increased stability

“The EN 131 standard will help to ensure that, whilst a ladder may not always be your first option, they remain a viable solution for work at height where alternative forms of access cannot be used.”

The good news, is that you don’t need to immediately scrap your current ladder system – you can use your current ladder if it is in good condition.

At the moment, you can still buy ladders adhering to the old certification, although they will be less available over time as supply diminishes.

We would always recommend that your team are trained with the sufficient skills and knowledge to work safely with your current access solution. It’s always worth carrying out a risk assessment to determine whether you should use a ladder or perhaps an alternative form of equipment.

“Every one of our products has been developed by experts in their field,” said Nigel Woodger,
Managing Director of POP UP PRODUCTS.

“Our product development team are always looking for ways to make working at height easier, safer and compliant with the revised Ladder Standard EN131.”

“Each aspect has been carefully considered and produced by our knowledgeable team to make certain that when you use our products, we can guarantee you’re in safe hands.”

“At POP UP PRODUCTS, we have guides available for each product specification so you can check the standards of each access solution so you can be confident they’re suitable for your project.”
